In 1985 I received a Macintosh Plus for working on the book A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AMERICA. Inspired by this computer and its ability to display photographs a project was started to catalogue my archive. Until this time all of my negatives and prints were stored in legal boxes with little or no reference for access except for one small metal suitcase, painted red, that stored strips of my most important negatives clipped to it's original contact sheet. How easy it seemed back in 1985--all we had to do was assign a number to each picture and scan the entire library of images--innocence is bliss! What seemed so simple turned out to be more than the little Macintosh Plus suggested, but for all the years of work that this project has taken it was the brilliance and simplicity of that tiny machine and its ability to display a picture that was this library's inspiration.
